Equity release, lifetime mortgages and retirement interest-only mortgages are regulated products, and you must take advice from an FCA-authorised adviser before you take one out. We do not give advice, but we can introduce you to an adviser who does.

When this might be relevant
- you want to buy the next home before the old one sells
- the move would not release enough, or you would rather stay put
- you have an interest-only mortgage coming to an end with no repayment plan
- you want to help family now without moving at all
What to expect from an adviser
- They should be on the FCA register. You can check at register.fca.org.uk.
- For equity release, look for a member of the Equity Release Council, whose standards include a no-negative-equity guarantee.
- They should encourage you to involve family and to take independent legal advice.
- They should tell you up front how they are paid.
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on a mortgage or any other loan secured on it. Equity release may reduce the value of your estate and affect your entitlement to means-tested benefits.
