Downsizing for Retirement is a free guide to moving to a smaller home in later life, written in plain English for the people doing it and the families helping them.
Why it exists
Most information about downsizing is written by people selling something: retirement developments, equity release, estate agency. It tends to skip the downs and hurry you to the brochure. We wanted one place that starts with the question "should I?", puts the money on the table with every cost included, and then, only then, gets on to where and how.
What we are not
We are not estate agents, lenders, brokers, advisers or developers, and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing here is financial, legal or tax advice. When you want advice, our get help page points you to people who are qualified to give it. They are separate businesses.
Keeping it accurate
Tax thresholds, benefit limits and typical costs are checked when we write and reviewed when rules change. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
